Doug and Zach found a fawn on the side of the road near our house. Doug saw it walking around, and when it saw Doug, he came right up to him. Doug called me and I came home (we were suppose to be meeting at the store..) We gave it some milk from a bottle and contacted the vet school. We were told of a family that rescues them. We called and made arrangements to take the fawn to them. On the way, we stopped by Brett's scout meeting and shared our story. The rescue family has a license to care for them. They feed them and care for them till they are grown. Then release them. Deer do not need a lot of nurturing. The fawns are left alone a lot. The fact that this one came up to Doug, was walking around, even crying, meant that it needed help. The mother was hit by a car a few days ago. This fawn still had its umbilical cord.... It really bonded to Zach. Even though they don't receive nurturing in the wild, this one did love to snuggle up. It was def. hungry! It kept licking and sucking on Zach.... After eating, it seemed content to just lay with Zach, even wagging its tail. We had to let Brett see it too. We dropped by the scout meeting and shared the story. Then let Brett get an up close look and hold him. On the way to the rescue family! They even go to our church. Their daughter took communion with Zach, same mass... On the way, we were talking about how special for Zach to help save this new life. I was telling him how God must have a plan for this little one to ensure he was rescued. Then Zach said "like the lost sheep story. God is happy he is found!". The family rescues these babies then releases them later in the year. They find land that is not hunted. Last year they had 20. We are def. keeping their contact info. in case this happens again.

Zach's First Communion
Sunday, May 2, 2010 was Zach's First Communion. Zach has been very excited and ready for this day. Just about every time at church he would try to take communion and really did not like crossing his arm. Now, he had his day.... After two years of preparation in Religious Education classes, we had his special day. The invitation. Zach's Family Banner. This marked the pew in church we sat in. Each child designed and made their personal banner. The cake! Zach wanted to have a cake look like the "bread" and wanted cupcakes. So we came up with this together... All these kids go to school with Zach. Liam and Zach. Friends since pre-school. Cole and Zach. Best buds.
