Brett went on his FIRST Boy Scout camp out this weekend. He and his troop left on Friday at 5:30 and returned on Sunday! He was so excited. This was his first real camping trip for more than just one night. No parent, no amenities, very primitive camping! He got to make a real first aid kit, have an inflatable pillow, and even got to shop for the groceries with his fellow scouts. At first we did not think he could make it, according to his baseball schedule he had too many conflicts. Then we got word a tournament had just taken all the fields and his practice and scrimmage were canceled. He could not have been happier! Before we dropped Brett off we had chinese food, Brett's fortune was "you will soon be up for a promotion". What luck, he was voted Patrol Leader at camp! Who says fortune cookies don't come true?! Matthew, Brett and Kenny, ready to go. They have been in Cub Scouts together and all been friends since the first grade. They are really trying to look cool while Mr. Arthur and I wanted to take a picture of them before they left. Matthew and Brett.

Pebble Creek Carnival 2010: Lost in Space
Sat. was our School Carnival. This year the theme was "Lost in Space". We had so much fun. Zach enjoyed running around, playing games, getting a cast, and even taking a trip to the moon... Zach on his trip to the moon! He made it back in time for his cast treatment.... Zach needed a cast and thankfully Dr. Eric was there to help. Working the carnival can be fun. The Holmgreens and us really had a blast. Here we are stuffing the kids raffle with tickets.... Cole and Zach! Notice they both have colored lips/mouth...Well then notice that it matches their casts! Good buds! Zach won his kids raffle items! He was soooo excited. He could not stop smiling and was running over to us to show us his prizes.

Arrow of Light
The highest honor a Cub Scout can receive is the "Arrow of Light" award. Brett achieved this and received his arrow on March 2, 2010 during the Blue and Gold Banquet. He joined Scouts in third grade. He earned his Bobcat, Bear, and Webelos badges. He also earned one gold arrow point, three silver arrow points, many belt loops, the Parvuli Dei religious emblem, the World Conservation Award, the Outdoor Activity Award, the Leave No Trace Awareness Award, The arrow of Light and all twenty Webelos activity badges. In earning all activity badges, he achieved the Super Achiever award as well. Brett has decided to continue his scouting journey and join Troop 102. His new scout master is his current Social Studies teacher, so he has a real connection and growing bond already. He is joining this troop along side a number of his good friends. He already has his sights set on earning his Eagle Scout! Brett is with Akela, the head leader of Scouting. He presents the arrows to the scouts and invites them to enter the world of Boy Scouts as they pass over a bridge into the new world. The arrow symbol is a sun, either viewed as setting (the end of cub scouts) or rising (beginning of Boy Scouts). The boys "bridge" over, so they symbolically walk over a bridge with the arrow of light symbol on it. Brett is here with his friends after they each bridged over. Us on the "bridge". Brett is holding his arrow. On the arrow are different bands of colors. These represent all the awards, achievements that he has earned while a Cub Scout. The arrow head is a real one and very sharp. Brett is very proud and has already put it on his wall. Us with Brett's new Scout Master: Mr. Hughes. Brett really enjoys Social Studies with him, and is really looking forward to many fun years in Scouting with him. Mr. Hughes has really been a great influence on Brett and is very proud of him. He approached us first and wanted Brett to join his troop.
